A ridge augmentation is a type of dental surgery that evens out the bone around teeth. It is also used to prevent further damage to the teeth and jawbone. This surgery is often performed on people who have lost one or more teeth, as well as those who have suffered from periodontal disease. At Dental Masters, we use the latest techniques and technologies to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care.
If you are missing one or more teeth, have suffered from periodontal disease, or are considering
dental implants, a ridge augmentation may be right for you. Ridge augmentations can help to prevent further damage to the teeth and jawbone, and can also improve the appearance of your smile. If you are seeking dental implants, a ridge augmentation can regenerate the missing bone, so you'll have more support for the implants.
A ridge augmentation is performed by placing a
bone graft material into the spaces where teeth are missing. This graft material helps to stimulate the growth of new bone, which will eventually fuse with the existing bone. In some cases, a metal plate or other type of support may be used to help hold the graft material in place. The surgery is typically performed under local
anesthesia, though
sedation may be used for patients who are anxious about the procedure.
Most patients will experience some soreness and swelling for a few days after the procedure, but this can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication. Generally, expect 3 to 5 days of some discomfort along the lips and gums. After following a soft-food diet, you should try to avoid chewing where the ridge augmentation was done.
If you are considering ridge augmentation, the team at Dental Masters
will work with you to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. We will develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs. To learn more about ridge augmentation or to schedule a consultation,

"I’ve been going to Dental Masters of Alexandria for years and a patient of Dr. Laviola since he started practicing here. He’s very personable, knowledgeable, takes time to explain procedures (I’ve had quite a few!) and is just an amazing dentist. The entire staff is wonderful, always helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!"

"I have been a patient of Dr. Laviola's for several years now, and this is the best dental practice I have ever been to. Dr. Laviola and the whole team takes extraordinary care to make sure you are always comfortable throughout any cleaning and procedure, both major and minor (I have had both). The entire support team is also great."
