Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that replaces missing bone in order to repair bone fractures that are not healing or to build up bones that are deformed. Bone grafting can be performed using a variety of different techniques, and the type of technique used will depend on the location and extent of the bone loss. At Dental Masters, we routinely use a variety of bone grafting techniques to help our patients heal from their injuries, prepare for
dental implants or other restorations, and regain their normal function.
Bone grafting can provide a number of benefits for patients with bone loss. By restoring the structure and function of the affected area, patients can experience improved jaw mobility and reduced pain. In addition, bone grafting can help to prevent further damage to the surrounding tissues and any remaining teeth.
During bone grafting surgery, you can expect to be given some form of anesthesia. This means that you will not feel pain during the procedure. The surgeon will make an incision in the area where the bone graft will be placed and will then insert the graft into the area. Bone grafting takes precise planning and skill to ensure that it is successful.
The entire procedure usually takes one to two hours, but this will vary depending on the type of graft being used and the size of the area being treated. You will be given pain medication to help manage any discomfort.
There are many different types of bone grafting procedures, but they all involve transplanting bone to the area where there is bone loss. The most common type of bone grafting is autologous bone grafting, which involves taking bone from another area of the patient's body. Allograft bone grafting involves taking bone from a donor. In some cases, artificial bones or proteins may be used in place of natural bone.

"I’ve been going to Dental Masters of Alexandria for years and a patient of Dr. Laviola since he started practicing here. He’s very personable, knowledgeable, takes time to explain procedures (I’ve had quite a few!) and is just an amazing dentist. The entire staff is wonderful, always helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!"

"I have been a patient of Dr. Laviola's for several years now, and this is the best dental practice I have ever been to. Dr. Laviola and the whole team takes extraordinary care to make sure you are always comfortable throughout any cleaning and procedure, both major and minor (I have had both). The entire support team is also great."
